The
following list of items are the essential things that you will need to
take care of during your junior and senior years of high school if you
want to go to college.

During
your junior year of high school you need to:
|
|
|
Make
a commitment to earn the best grades that you possibly can during your
junior year.
Know what your class ranking is at the beginning of the school year and
seek to improve upon your ranking.
|
|
|
Take
the ACT or the SAT test in the fall of your junior year.
Do not be satisfied with an average test score.
Take the test 2-3 times if necessary to earn a respectable score.
|
|
|
Conduct
on-line research regarding the colleges that you want to attend. Review
their admission requirements to help you eliminate certain schools.
Keep in mind that most colleges require two years of a foreign language
and two years of upper level math.

|
|
Start
making a list of scholarships that you plan to apply for during your
senior year.
|
|
|
Find
out how much it will cost to attend the colleges that you are
considering.
You can find this information on line through the colleges web site.
|
|
|
Attend
local college fairs and talk to college recruitment representatives
about their college, degrees offered and admission requirements.
|
|
Learn
how to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel software programs. Also,
purchase a flash drive and learn how to attach documents and pictures to
an e-mail.

|
|
Attention student-athletes!
If you plan to plan collegiate sports you will need
to registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The clearinghouse
verifies if you are eligible to play sports when you enroll in college. Your high school
counselor and sports coach will need to help you fill out this

During
your senior year of high school you need to:

Work
with a sense of urgency. Have a plan and work the plan. It works
if you work it!
|
|
|
Make
a commitment to earn the best grades that you possibly can during your
senior year.
Get a tutor for the subject that you need help in at the beginning of
the school year.

Make
it your goal to apply for three to four scholarships per month.
No amount is too little to apply for because college is expensive.
Unlike public schools, you will have to buy your books and all required
classroom supplies in college.

|
Attend
local college fairs in the fall and talk to college recruitment
representatives.

|

Start

account every week for correspondence from FAFSA or your prospective
college financial aid office.
Your financial aid is not fully processed until you receive an awards
letter from the college stating what they are willing to offer to you in
the form of grants, scholarships and loans.

Take

Create
a professional e-mail address for communication with your college
advisor.

|
Decide
which college you will be attending by March or spring break and submit
your college application.

|
|
If
you are an athlete you will need to be certified by the NCAA Clearing
House to play sports. See your counselor and head coach for more
information regarding this process.

|
|
|
|
Submit
your freshman orientation and housing fees in March or April.
